A new project called Old Town Pub has received approval from the Elk Grove Planning Commission for a conditional use permit to revamp a historic 1900 wood-frame building at 9032 Elk Grove Blvd. into a pub. The project was first presented to the Elk Grove Historic Preservation Committee (HPC) on June 10.

The historic building was once the Old Town General Store, also known as the “Hayes Meat Market.” The building has a wood frame with a rectangular plan and a front-gabled roof with a tall false front wood parapet. According to the plans submitted, the new business will incorporate a bar, an indoor seating area with about 40 seats, and a pool table area. The business will be a bar only without an on-site kitchen. There will also be an outdoor patio on the east side of the building with additional seating.
The applicants for the project are Larry and Joanna Baker, who also own The Sign Center on the same lot at 9036 Elk Grove Blvd. Based on the application submitted, the bar will open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The owners also plan to have live music performances indoors and outdoors.
Though the project is in its early stages, neighborhood businesses have already expressed positive interest in having a local joint, according to public hearing responses shared in the planning commission’s records. The only other eateries in the area, including Babe’s Lounge and Brick House Restaurant & Catering across the street, and Old Town Pub will be adding another option to a lot that already houses several other commercial businesses.
